Bonalumi Agostino

He studied technical and mechanical design studies. Self-taught, in 1948, at thirteen years, exhibits with a personal room outside the competition at the Vimercate National City Prize. In 1958 the Bonalumi-Castellani-Manzoni group was formed with an exhibition at the Pater Gallery in Milan, followed by other exhibitions in Rome, Milan and Lausanne. In 1961, the Kasper Gallery was among the founders of the Nuova Scuola Europea group. Arturo Schwarz acquires his works and in 1965 presents a personal exhibition of Bonalumi in his gallery in Milan, with a presentation in the catalog of Gillo Dorfles. In 1966 he started a long-term collaboration with the Naviglio Gallery in Milan, which will represent him exclusively (publishing in 1973 for the Edizioni del Naviglio a large monograph edited by Gillo Dorfles) and is invited to the Venice Biennale. It follows a period of study and work travel in the countries of Mediterranean Africa and in the United States.
In 1970 (personal room) and in 1986 he is present at the Venice Biennale.
He has created works of paint-environment such as, in 1967, “Blu Abitabile”, for the exhibition “Lo Spazio dell’Immagine” in Foligno. Also in 1967 “Ambiente Bianco”, for a personal exhibition at the Bonino Gallery in New York, 1968 the “Grande Nero”, for a personal exhibition at the Museum am Ostawall in Dortmund, 1979, under the “Pittura Ambiente” exhibition, curated by Francesca Alinovi and Renato Barilli at the Royal Palace in Milan, Painting Environment from yellow to white and from white to yellow, where the environment, considered human activity, is analyzed as a primary and psychological activity. In 1980, by the Lombardy Region, an anthology accompanied by a catalog by Editrice Electa, with texts by Flavio Caroli and Gillo Dorfles, and Guido Armellini's cards, is set up in the halls of Palazzo Te di Mantova.
In 1989, 90,91, 95, the Galleria Blu di Milano set up his personalities accompanied by the publication of a large monograph. In 1995, in the same Blue Gallery, the paintings-sculpture-objects painted by the artist since 1966 are exhibited. For this occasion, a monograph was published by Scheiwiller in the Italian Modern Art series, with a text by Vanni Scheiviller. Since 1997, he has been working with the Galleria Fumagalli of Bergamo and with the Niccoli Gallery in Parma, which in 1998 exhibited works from 1957 to 1997, accompanied by a monograph by Editions Stefano Fumagalli, edited by Alberto Fiz and Marco Meneguzzo. He has worked on scenography in 1970 for the Teatro Romano in Verona, scenes and costumes for the ballet "Partita", music by Goffredo Petrassi, choreography by Susanna Egri, and in 1972 for the Rome Opera Theater scenes and costumes "Rot", music by Domenico Guaccero, choreography by Amedeo Amodio. In 2001 he was awarded the Prize of President of the Republic and on this occasion the National Academy of St. Luke dedicated a retrospective exhibition. In 2002 he was invited to the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice with “Ambiente Bianco-Spazio trattenuto Spazio respinto”: an installation of exceptional perceptual value specially made for the prestigious venue, which confirms his idea, expressed in various theoretical writings of great charm: art as a continuous tension between thought and physical reality.
On the horseback between 2003 and 2004, an anthology was set up, with works from 1959 to 2003, at the Institut Mathildenhöe in Darmstadt. In November 2003, at the Seminar of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, he attended the exhibition "Futuro Italiano" organized in the European Parliament's premises in Brussels.
He has performed many multiple works and several art books.
